Every great rider starts somewhere, and for most, that journey begins with a parent, a first sled, and a promise to return home safely.
Lineage of the Line is a DeepLineThrottle original interview series that explores the critical, often untold story of progression: the transition from riding with family to sending with the crew.
This series sits at the heart of the Respect the Send Challenge, blending the wisdom of experienced riders and educators with the raw passion of the next generation. Each interview features a top professional or semi-pro rider alongside one of their parents or primary mentors.
The Foundation: We delve into the early years, focusing on how parents instilled the crucial habits of safety, machine maintenance, and mountain respect. (The lessons Todd Hutton promised his wife, Shelly, he would always enforce.)
The Progression: We track the pivotal moment when the young rider—like a young Shena Thomas or Landon Pavan—was ready to leave the family trails and begin pushing technical limits with their peers.
The Balance: We explore the necessary tension between a parent's desire for safety and the rider's passion for pushing limits, demonstrating how proper training (like AST courses) bridges that gap. (The philosophy promoted by guide Cody Schmidt.)
Lineage of the Line is the ultimate resource for every contest participant, parent, and enthusiast. It reinforces the central message: the safest and most successful riders are the ones whose biggest sends are built on the strongest family and educational foundations.
Coming Soon: Interviews featuring the families of our Pro Judges, including Landon Pavan and our Rising Star Judges, including Chase Masson, and more!
